Elizabeth Warren championed national consumer protection and financial reform, and continues to stand up to corporations and lobbyists attacking the middle class. Although she helped create the Consumer Protection Agency, Republicans backed by Wall Street blockaded her nomination. Our members succeeded in securing Warren’s appointment as interim director of the Consumer Protection Agency, and her work has strengthened the agency and made it a valuable resource for the middle class. Keith Olbermann
In October 2010, MSNBC suspended news anchor Keith Olbermann. Over 300,000 members signed a successful emergency petition calling on MSNBC to reinstate him. Olbermann did return to the air, but left the network soon after. Watch his sign-off thanking PCCC members for their support during his last show below. [more]
BP’s Oil Spill
In 2010, our members helped raise national awareness about the poor safety conditions for workers on the Gulf shores cleaning up the BP oil spill. We launched the coalition BP Makes Me Sick, and our petition to make BP provide respirators for all workers received over 82,000 signatures from our members. Watch Keith Olbermann’s coverage below. Norm Coleman
The election for Minnesota’s Senate seat in 2008 ended with a razor thin victory for Al Franken. Despite Franken’s lead, Norm Coleman refused to concede. To give him an incentive to respect the will of the people, we launched “A Dollar A Day To Make Norm Go Away!” For every day Coleman stayed in the race, our members raised huge sums of money for his opponents, giving him an incentive to drop out. In the end our members gave over $200,000 and convinced Coleman to drop out. [more]
