Last year, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin (D) made history by signing into law legislation that would enact a single-payer health care system.
Tonight, Shumlin was re-elected by Vermont’s voters. Progressive Change Campaign Committee co-founder Stephanie Taylor has released the following statement following Shumlin’s win:
“GovernorAi??Shumlin’s victory is a major mandate for single payer health care. We are proud to have made over 26,000 calls to Vermont votersAi??inAi??the final week through our grassroots army of volunteers. We will continue mobilizing behind GovernorAi??ShumlinAi??to make sure every Vermonter has access to affordable health care.”
We look forward to continuing to work with Shumlin to enact Vermont’s single payer health care system.

Dear MAHP,
My wife and I are farmers with two girls (Mei 10yr and Li 8yr) and 20 percent of our income goes to healthcare one of the primary drivers of healthcare in the the nation is the confidential pricing of hospital services and products using a hospital administrative process called a chargemaster or cdm.
Please see:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chargemaster
The chargemaster process is not transparent, is not regulated, and is allowing price gauging to occur in our healthcare system.
The only state to have a single regulated Chargemaster system is Maryland can your organization comment on the Chargemaster Process used by hospitals?
And will Vermont use Medicare rates as a fair and reasonable and transparent pricing to replace the current hospital Chargemaster price gouging system in practice in all states?
Thank you for your prompt response to my inquiries.
Best Wishes,
Donald Sutherland
