Senior Republican Senator Bob Corker (TN) made headlines this weekend when he said he would be willing to let the Bush tax cuts for the richest Americans expire. But Corker wanted something else in return — major cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits. He has laid out a plan that not only includes so-called “means testing” but also a hike in the eligibility/retirement age for both programs.
He even explicitly talked about using the debt ceiling as “leverage” in order to enforce such a deal. Watch it:
The Republicans are essentially asking the Democrats to cut benefits for all Americans in exchange for something that is going to happen, anyway. That’s not a deal they should even think about taking.
To put this in a nice way…………..Screw all of them!! Go over the cliff….we gotcha by the balls!
senator bob corker is a babblingis a idiot and need to be removed from office what kind of idiot would make a deal like that, that’s republican bob corker, name fits you well corker how much did they pay u to make the republicans look shit. people like u in office make me sick. u are a disgrace.
Dear Mr. Corker (*hic*), Cork it! You’ve had enough already.
First of all, Social Security and Medicare are NOT freakin’ entitlements.
GOT THAT? Do your budget deal on something else. Trading tax cuts for rich folk for screwing the poor and middle class is what lost you your BUTT in the 2012 elections and it’ll be worse for you if you keep bloviating and behaving like your master, The OXYviagraKING, the guy that, in the end is just an entertainer ranting and mewling to MAKE MONEY.
Second of all, YOU’RE not going to “LET” anything happen in the way of the Bush handouts, er tax cuts. THEY WILL EXPIRE, it’s the law and all Democrats have to do is let it expire and then watch as you weasel, mewl, whine and moan about getting the blame, AND BEING THE BLAME for taxes going up on the other 98% of us so your precious millionaires and billionaires that don’t need a damn tax cut can keep the tax cuts they’ve received these last 12 years. YOU KNOW(?), these last 12 years of NOT paying for the TWO WARS YOU and YOUR pathetic party beat the drums for, the prescription drug program you passed, AND AGAIN, DID…NOT…PAY…FOR, along with the fact that you irresponsibly handed out these massive tax cuts without “paying” for them either.
YOU, sir, are irresponsible and purely driven by party ‘idiotology’ in lieu of the needs of Americans. YOU, sir, do NOT represent America, but do, indeed, represent the Tea Party Republicans that have driven this country into the ditch, and YES, the Tea Party has always been there, it just wasn’t called “The Tea Party”…..and leave it to you clowns to take the Boston Tea Party and pervert and bastardize it! If YOU were to really embrace the true “Tea Party” spirit, you and your pals would be in Walmart carrying out the merchandise and dumping it in Boston Harbor!
By the way, I’ve asked the following question hundreds of times to RepublicOns and have only received ONE reply…
“WHY DO BILLIONAIRES AND MULTIMILLIONAIRES NEED A TAX CUT?”
…the one and ONLY reply I ever received was from a very conned conservative friend,
“Rich people need tax cuts too”
and don’t go all bullshitski on us and try to tell me it’s because they’re “the job creators” and they must have those tax cuts to create jobs because that’s a dead straw dog you clowns have been sporting around and it’s carcass is rotting. When one has billions of dollars in the bank, one does NOT need a tax cut to “create jobs!”
Geeze, the crap you people manufacture, conjure and make up to promote and support your fatally flawed and failed conservative beliefs and twisted policy is the stuff fiction and twisted fantasy. It’s all goofer dust and pin dolls with you and your ilk.
One of the best written “rants” I’ve read lately. You got it all in there and you are making sense. Stay active.
Ziad, my sentiments exactly. The GOP and all who voted for the TEMPORARY tax reductions agreed in that vote for them to return to the past rates. Obama, is compromising by letting the middle rates remain low (or reduce them after they return to previous rates) so now the GOP needs to match that compromise with some lesser cuts to the “fiscal cliff” across the board cuts. Medicare and SSI are not addressed in the “fiscal cliff” cuts and the republicans cannot bear that fact. Means testing MAY be a road to take in Medicare, but I have not seen where age increase is effective. SSI is very fixable with minor changes.
It’s a really good point that the tax cuts were originally passed as temporary and then are renewed as temporary — they are supposed to expire, so why are we talking about negotiating away cuts to Medicare benefits for them?
Thanks for reading, hope you will continue to comment.
If any of these political office holders are for cutting entitlements lets put it all on the table; including, the entitlements that they are automatically eligible for after leaving public office. These are entitlements they have contributed nothing towards. Come to think of it does anyone have the figures for the dollar amount that is being spend on entitlements for past office holders.
