GAME POLITICS: PCCC Video Compares Net Neutrality Proposal to ‘Laggy Video Games’

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has released a new video comparing the Federal Communications Commissionai??i??s new plans for Internet “fast lanes” to “the laggiest game youai??i??ve ever played.” The video, made by animation firm Pixel Valley Studio, delivers the liberal group’s call for members (and the Internet community at large) to sign a petition urging the FCC to reclassify the Internet as a public utility like telephone service.

Doing so would allow the agency to use Title II of the Telecommunications Act to regulate the sector. Without that reclassification, the agency has no authority over broadband providers – according to the Appeal Court ruling in Verizon v. FCC. In that case Verizon won because a panel of judges determined that the FCC has no authority under the law.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has been protesting FCC Chairman Tom Wheelerai??i??s current plans for net neutrality rules through the website www.NoSlowLane.com, which debuted earlier this month. They highlight the promise President Obama made during his 2008 campaign that he would only support FCC commissioners who believed in the concept, which calls for all traffic to be treated equally online.

WASHINGTON POST: PCCC Pressures McCaskill on Campaign Finance Reform

A NEW TARGET FOR THE LEFT: Itai??i??s Senator Claire McCaskill, who claims the problem is not that billionaires are buying elections, but that so much of the money is secret. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee today will email 12,000 members in Missouri and urge them to pressure McCaskill to reaffirm her support for public campaign finance reform.

If the only problem is that the money is secret, that would appear to mean there is no problem with unlimited donations, if they are accompanied with full disclosure ai??i?? a position held by many Republicans.

WASHINGTON POST: California Endorsements by PCCC Worth Watching

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is endorsing three House Democratic candidates on the grounds that they support expanding Social Security and are taking on Dems who would cut it, a sign of the leftai??i??s determination to make the idea of a Social Security expansion into a key intraparty issue.

We Endorse Mike Honda

Honda_SSHero_900x900Congressman Mike Honda spent his childhood in a Japanese-American internment camp before becoming a teacher.

Now he’s one of the boldest progressives in Congress — a national leader for expanding Social Security benefits, requiring millionaires to pay their fair share, and protecting Net Neutrality.

This morning’s Election Watch reports, “Hondaai??i??s rival Ro Khanna (D) has refused to commit to expanding Social Security benefits, saying he wouldnai??i??t rule out cutting them for future recipients.”

Ro Khanna also opposes the congressional progressive budget that would tax millionaires, invest in jobs, and invest in education! (And he calls himself a Democrat?)

Today, we are proud to endorse Mike Honda for re-election. Please vote in the June 3primary — and share this blog with all local voters you know.

You can also help Mike Honda win by donating $3 to his campaign here.

And let Mike and others know you support him by endorsing him here.

Ro Khanna has been desperately “district shopping” for years. He even tricked people into donating to him when he was running in a different district — and now he’s using that money to run against popular Mike Honda!

Ro Khanna’s ideas are incredibly old. In criticizing the forward-looking progressive budget, he called for more “compromise and consensus” with House Republicans.

Has he been watching Congress lately? Does Ro Khanna actually believe the problem is that Democrats don’t compromise enough?

Mike Honda is right up there with Elizabeth Warren and Alan Grayson as a bold progressive who gets that the voice of the people has been lost — and yes, we need someone fighting for us.

Please pass this to every local voter you know because every vote counts on June 3.

And help Mike Honda win by donating $3 here and endorse him here.

PCCC Endorses Three Social Security Heroes From California For Congress

Mike Honda, Eloise Gomez Reyes and Michael EggmanCalling yourself a Democrat should mean something.

Progressive Congressman Mike Honda is facing a conservative primary challenger on June 3 who calls himself a Democrat — but is he really?

Honda’s opponent is open to cutting Social Security, wants more “consensus” with House Republicans, and opposes the progressive budget that would tax millionaires to invest in jobs and education!

He wrote: “U.S. Rep. Mike Honda…criticized the Republican budget and touted the alternatives offered by his Progressive Caucus. It’s time for a different approach in Washington that puts consensus and compromise ahead of demagoguery and division.”

Today, we officially endorse Mike Honda, Eloise Gomez Reyes, and Michael Eggman — three California progressives who need our help in key congressional races.

Eloise Gomez Reyes is the daughter of immigrant farmworkers who worked hard to build a life as a lawyer — and wants to make sure everyone has access to the American Dream. Her more conservative “Democratic” opponent supports the Simpson-Bowles plan to cut Social Security.

Michael Eggman grew up as an almond farmer and beekeeper, paid his way through college, and continues to run a successful farm. He is a progressive running against a vulnerable Republican incumbent who Democrats need to beat in order to take back the House. Due to unique California election rules, they will face off next month in a cross-partisan primary — and whomever comes out on top will have big momentum.

Congressman Mike Honda spent his childhood in a Japanese-American internment camp before becoming a teacher and serving as one of the strongest progressives in Congress.

All three are in tight races for Congress in California. They understand the plight of hard-working people, and support investing in jobs, expanding Social Security benefits, and holding Wall Street accountable.

US ELECTION WATCH: PCCC Endorses in 3 CA House Races

PCCC is backing Reps. Mike Honda (CA-17), Eloise Gomez Reyes (CA-31) and Mike Eggman (CA-10) over rival candidates who have backed cutting social security benefits.

ai???In 2014, weai??i??re making clear that the Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party is ascendant ai??i?? and that candidates who support expanding Social Security benefits will defeat candidates who would cut Social Security,ai??? wrote PCCC Press Secretary Laura Friedenbach in an email.

ai???Weai??i??re proud to support these bold progressive champs against their conservative Democrat and Tea Party opponents.ai???

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD: Senate Candidate Bellows and PCCC Join Students, Grads for Event at Bowdoin

Senate candidate Shenna Bellows, Progressive Change Campaign Committee members, students and working graduates will hold an event at noon Thursday to call on Republican Sen. Susan Collins to support Sen. Elizabeth Warrenai??i??s new student loan bill. The bill, introduced Tuesday, gives existing loan holders lower rates.

The PCCC is partnering with senators and Senate candidates nationwide to organize grassroots events calling on Republicans to support Warrenai??i??s new economic-populist proposal. Other events are being held today in Portland, Oregon, Minneapolis, and Lexington, Kentucky.

BGR: Sen. Franken spearheads a major campaign to save net neutrality

In addition to taking a leading role in trying to kill the Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger, Senator Al Franken is also now leading a campaign to stop the Federal Communications Commission from letting ISPs create Internet ai???fast lanesai??? with its latest net neutrality proposal. In a new video posted by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Franken makes his case that the FCCai??i??s controversial plan could hinder future innovation and consumer choice by giving big incumbent companies a permanent competitive advantage over up-and-coming startups.

ROLL CALL: Net Neutrality, Al Franken Style

The Democratic senator from Minnesota spells out his view of net neutrality: ai???Google TV wasnai??i??t that great ai??i?? YouTube was better than Google TV, and because both traveled at the same speed to the viewer, people were able to make a choice between the two.ai??? He adds later that net neutrality ai???is the free-speech issue of our time.ai???

Behind the video is NoSlowLane.com, a site backed by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which was founded by two former MoveOn organizers.

FUSION: PCCC Holds Obama’s FCC to 2007 Net Neutrality Promise

While he was on campaign for the presidency in 2007, President Barack Obama took to the MTV airwaves to answer questions that concerned the youth of America. According to an Internet poll the channel had going at the time, the biggest question on peopleai??i??s minds was a question on a topic that remains relevant now more than ever: net neutrality.

ai???Would you make it a priority in your first year in office to reinstate net neutrality as the law of the land?ai??? Joe Niedenberger, a small business owner from New Jersey, asked Senator Obama. ai???And would you pledge to only appoint FCC commissioners that support open internet principles like net neutrality?ai???

ai???The answer is yes. I am a strong supporter of net neutrality,ai??? candidate Obama responded. ai???As President, I am going to make sure that my FCC commissioners are applying [those principles] as we move forward.”

The above video was posted this morning by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a political action committee (PAC) that is calling for current FCC chairman Tom Wheeler to step down ai???so that the president can appoint someone who will stand up for Internet freedom.ai???

PCCC Launches NoSlowLane.com Pressuring Obama, FCC On Net Neutrality

On MTV in 2007, Joe Niederberger, a small business owner and former Internet engineer in New Jersey, asked Barack Obama a question about Net Neutrality. And he got a clear promise to protect Internet freedom. Now, that Internet freedom is under attack. Obamaai??i??s new FCC Chair ai??i?? a cable industry lobbyist — threatens to break that promise.

Watch the video:

Go to NoSlowLane.com and sign Joe’s petition to public officials!

With America having some of the slowest, most expensive Internet access in the world, the FCC should be making the Internet better — not worse.

The new FCC Chair should carry out President Obamaai??i??s promise and support Net Neutrality. If he wonai??i??t, he should step down so the president can appoint someone who will stand up for Internet freedom and make the Internet better for all of us.
