Elizabeth Warren
We helped draft Elizabeth Warren to run for Senate in Massachusetts, with our members raising over $500,000. In addition, over 60,000 potential volunteers and donors joined the draft and we ran online ads in support of the campaign. In early September, after the demonstration of grassroots support, Warren announced she would run in 2012. As her campaign develops, we continue to support her. [more]
Lori Saldana
A three-term state legislator and university educator, Lori Saldana is a passionate fighter for middle-class families and opposes cuts to Social Security and Medicare. “I want Democrats to have backbone,” she says. We’re organizing to help her win her primary against a conservative Democrat by helping her campaign hire staff and run efficiently, and raising small-dollar donations to help her win. [more]
Eric Griego
One of the most progressive senators in New Mexico, Eric Griego pushed a green jobs bill into law. Before that, he took on corporate money by passing public financing of elections in Albuquerque, making him the first candidate we endorsed for the 2012 election. So far, our members raised tens of thousands for Griego, and we’re helping his campaign set up its website, hire key staff, and run efficiently and effectively. Our work is ongoing to help Griego win. [more]
Chris Donovan
As Connecticut’s speaker of the House, Chris rejected a Republican “deal” to cut taxes on the rich and gut social services. Instead, he barnstormed the state showing how Republican cuts would hurt communities — and he won! Republicans caved! Chris is also a national leader for public financing — getting corporate money out of politics. We need that fighting instinct in Congress. [more]
Annie Kuster
Promising to “Occupy Congress,” Annie is campaigning on government investment in jobs, taxing the rich, choice, and holding Wall Street accountable. We endorsed Annie in both the 2012 and 2010 cycles, and in 2010, she defeated Joe Lieberman’s presidential campaign chair in a primary and had one of the closest general elections in the nation. This year, her Tea Party opponent is at a disastrous 30% in the polls, and Annie has big momentum. And we’re providing even bigger support to help her get there. [more]
Donna Edwards
Donna Edwards was the “original” progressive candidate to primary a corporate Democrat and win in 2008. Now, due to Maryland’s redistricting controlled by the political establishment, her seat in the 4th district is more conservative, and she’s being challenged by an establishment Democrat. Our members are mobilizing in support of Edwards campaign to help her win the primary and continue her record of progressive leadership in Congress. [more]
Raul Grijalva
In the 2010 elections, we mobilized to defend Representative Raul Grijalva, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Through phone calls and fundraising we helped him to re-election. Now, he’s being challenged in the Democratic primary by an establishment Democrat who’s attacking him from the right. Our members are mobilizing again to help him win his primary and re-election. Stand with the 99%
As people take to the streets to protest rising inequality, our members are standing with the 99% for an economy that works for everyone, not just the richest 1%. Over 80,000 people have pledged to move their money and pressured Congress to make it easier. We delivered over 54,000 thank you notes to Occupy Wall Street. And seven bold Congressional candidates from across the country delivered over 35,000 petition signatures to Republican Speaker John Boehner in front of the media. [more]
Foreclosures
Big banks are pressuring states to agree to a deal that would let them off the hook for foreclosure fraud they committed when they crashed our economy. Bold attorney generals like Eric Schneiderman in New York and Jack Conway in Kentucky are fighting back. Over 110,000 of our members have joined these attorney generals in fighting back, successfully pressuring California Attorney General Kamala Harris to come out against this deal. [more]
Wisconsin Recalls
We continue to mobilize in support of efforts to recall Republicans in Wisconsin who support Gov. Scott Walker’s war on working families. In February 2011, over 183,000 of our members stood in solidarity with Wisconsin workers. They, along with Democracy for America, raised over $2 million for television ads. In addition, thousands volunteered to help successfully defeat two Republicans — with the recall of Governor Walker coming up! [more]
