The failure of the Manchin-Toomey legislation yesterday to expand background checks for gun purchases has been blamed on a variety of factors. But one key detail is the fact that the gun lobby — consisting of the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and other groups funded by the gun industry — was a major fundraiser for Senators that opposed the reform bill.
The Center for Responsive Politics laid out donors to senators who both supported and opposed Manchin-Toomey, and found that lawmakers who opposed it received nearly eight times as much funding from the gun lobby. Meanwhile, it found that only $5,000 came from pro-reform groups (to the “yes” side):

I would be with you IF you could give me ONE reason how these “new” gun laws would stop a lunatic kid from stealing his mothers gun and going on a killing rampage. Find a REAL solution to the problem rather than a series of laws that just take guns away from law abiding citizens. Do you ACTUALLY think a criminal is going to walk into a gun dealer and try to purchase a gun ? Of course not. He’ll buy it off other thugs on the streets. You’re only doing damage to people that have legal rights to have arms.
If I were a resident of Boston, I think I would have wanted a gun last week to protect my family in case that killer tried to get inside my house. There was a whole American city locked down, most of them with no protection. Think about that Obama. Gun ownership is a complex issue and we don’t need edicts. Criminals don’t buy guns legally and how do tell if someone is insane? Have a shrink examine everyone who wants to buy a gun? Not feasible.

The right to bear arms is part of the constitutions checks and balances, and should not be messed with. I’ll not only vote for the candidates you’re against, but I’ll help throw the candidates that are with you out of office.
Bob your a ass, i own 20 guns and have been hunting for over 50 years ,,what we need is back ground checks and a limit of 3 round clips ,anything bigger should be banned and taken away ,then if they don’t turn in the large clips its 5 years in Federal prison per clip..thats how you inforce it..even if one life is saved the law would be a sucess it may save someone you know Bob
People should learn proper English and learn a little about the subject they are discussing before being allowed to post. I find this uneducated persons post quite entertaining, since the first thing he does is post derogatory name calling using improper English. Perhaps the person should go to night school to get his GED, that way he can rephrase “your a ass” properly and learn how to spell. It seems interesting that he has guns that all have clips with under 3 rounds. I have never seen or heard of a 3 round clip, and that part of his argument makes me laugh. For someone that owns 20 guns and that has been hunting for 50 years, his knowledge is totally inadequate. Perhaps he’s referring to the plastic toy guns that they took away from his when he entered the old folks home, or the sanitarium.
